Check Your Credit Report
Check Your Credit Report
It is important for you, as a consumer, to protect
your credit history and regularly obtain a copy of your
credit report to check its accuracy.
Make sure that your debts and creditors are correctly
listed. Verify the amounts of your balances to make
sure your debt is not overstated. Check to see if someone
else’s debts are reported under your name. If debts
that do not belong to you appear on your credit report,
notify the credit bureau immediately and request your
report be corrected. You don’t want a collection agency
trying to collect a debt that you don’t owe.
Checking your credit report regularly (at least twice
each year) allows you to avoid any damage that could
be caused by unfavorable or incorrect information reported
in your credit file. Remain aware of all information
in your credit history by checking your credit report
on a regular basis or subscribing to credit monitoring
service.
